Cell Site Analysis
Disklabs will undertake Cell Site Analysis to assist the Criminal Defence Council verify the accuracy of the prosecutions Cell Site findings and their report or undertake analysis against measurements taken at locations which can determine whether it is likely that calls made via a certain cell site could be made from that location.
Cell Site analysis is understood to be not an exact science but a legally accepted method of analysing mobile phone records in conjunction with network provider’s mast readings to give an indication of the location or movement of an individual mobile phone user. Combined with other case related information, the Cell Site report can assist the defence to prove or disprove a given scenario or alibi in relation to a scene of an event. It should be noted that it is not possible to pinpoint the exact location of a mobile handset based solely on call detail records.
To undertake Cell Site Analysis we require the prosecutions report which contains:
• Witness Statement
• Call records from the network provider.
• Prosecutions report including mapping.
If the prosecution has not carried out Cell Site analysis then we require:
• Historic Call data / records from the network provider.
• OS map location of the Mast sites from the network provider.
• Brief from Council outlining the circumstances.
The historic call data with Cell Site information is retained by the different networks for differing periods of time. These are:
• Vodafone = 5 months
• Hutchison 3 = no time limit (more expensive as time progresses to get the records)
• 02 = no time limit (more expensive as time progresses to get the records)
• Orange = 6 months
• T -Mobile = 12 months
